PhD in Pathology, University of Cambridge
Supervised by Dr. Brian Ferguson, April conducted lab-based research investigating the cell death mechanisms of oncolytic vaccinia virus. She engineered two genetically modified vaccinia virus strains with enhanced anti-cancer properties, providing novel insights into viral oncolysis. Her work included a comprehensive literature review, database searches, and advanced data analysis, culminating in a detailed PhD thesis that received positive reviews from examiners.
B.A. Natural Sciences, Trinity College Dublin
April graduated top of her class with first class honors and a university Gold Medal for exceptional merit. She received the M. Ciotti medal for best final year research project in School of Biochemistry and Immunology and completed a research internship at UMass Medical School, USA in 2018. Undertaking the moderatorship in Molecular Medicine in the School of Biochemistry and Immunology, April majored in molecular biology complemented by organic and inorganic chemistry, mathematics, and geology.

April completed the national Irish secondary school final examination in 2015, scoring in the 95th percentile with 550 points. She took exams in 7 honors level subjects including Mathematics: 97th percentile, Biology: 91st percentile, Art: 97th percentile, and French: 95th percentile.
